Nikos Maroulis is a Partner at Technopolis Group based in the Brussels office with 30 years of experience in research and innovation policy design and evaluation, regional development, and innovation systems analysis.
During his career, he was involved in several projects for the European Commission and national and regional governments and agencies in the European Union. He has extensively worked in the analysis of innovation systems, leading several studies of ERAWATCH and under the Policy Support facility of Horizon 2020 of DG RTD, providing advice on the transformation of Member States R&I systems, including the better use of ESIF funding. More recently, his work focused on analysing research and innovation ecosystems and industrial transitions.
He has also extensively worked at the regional level, where he offered technical expertise to the European Commission and the national and regional governments in Greece and the government of Cyprus to develop their smart specialisation strategies.
Also, Nikos has participated in several evaluation studies. More recently he worked on the evaluation of the LEIT ICT programme of Horizon 2020, the R&I programme RESTART of Cyprus and 18 R&I programmes in Greece.
Currently, Nikos is the project manager of the Mission Ocean implementation support platform (MIP OCEAN), offering support and coordination in the implementation of the Mission Ocean.
Nikos obtained his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece and his MSc in Science and Technology Policy from SPRU, University of Sussex, UK.
